Hypocaloric diet rebound effect + signs that you are not eating enough.
Editor: Nutrition Unit | Clínica Tufet
The rebound effect in the hypocaloric diet exists and it is usually after a restrictive diet.
Restrictive diets for a prolonged period of time force our organism to adapt in order to be able to continue carrying out the body’s vital functions with less energy, sometimes not enough, and more easily promoting an important muscular loss. Therefore, the daily metabolic rate will decrease (the energy expenditure that our body needs on a daily basis).
The problem comes when we want to eat again what we ate before. The body finds itself with a surplus of energy that it does not contemplate, since it has adapted to a new situation, and what it does not need is stored in adipose tissue.
"So it is key to ask for help from a professional whenever you want to make a body recomposition, to individualize each case and do it in a correct and healthy way."
In addition, it must be taken into account that our body needs an adequate amount of nutrients to carry out the vital daily functions that are key to the multiple physiological processes of the organism.
If for a prolonged period of time we do not provide it with what it needs (very common in a hypocaloric diet), it will have to prioritize where it allocates energy and nutrients. So there are functions that are going to be seen in the background and we can notice the following symptoms:
- Tiredness and constant fatigue
- Excessive hair loss
- Weakened nails
- Constant thoughts of food during the day
- Lack of concentration
- Moodiness and irritability
- Gastrointestinal alterations
- Difficulty falling asleep
Do not let these symptoms arrive and contact a professional if you suspect that your diet is not adequate.
