Picoway Laser Tattoo Removal
What is
What is the Picoway laser?
When the Picoway laser comes into contact with the ink, it collides with it and pulverizes it (photoacoustic effect). This breakage of the fragments is produced by the laser in picoseconds. By working in ultra-short pulses, the ink is broken into microparticles, which increases the efficiency of removal.

Information
How it works
At Clínica Tufet we use the Picoway Laser which, unlike other types of lasers, works in picoseconds.
The removal of a tattoo happens thanks to the fragmentation of the ink particles adhered in the middle dermis. This fragmentation is produced by the laser. The Picoway Laser, working in picoseconds, breaks the ink into microparticles, which increases the effectiveness of the removal.
The peculiarity of the picosecond laser is that it only acts on the ink, respecting the integrity of the skin as much as possible without damaging it. The healing process is practically non-existent since it is only necessary to apply regenerating cream and sunscreen + 50
It is essential to understand that pigment elimination occurs via the lymphatic route and dermal lesions appear.
Our doctors accompany the removal of tattoos at all times and if there are complications (almost nonexistent), the response capacity is immediate. We are always advised by our dermatology unit.
Advantages of the Picoway laser
The laser is a machine that needs a soul, it must have curiosity, ability and kindness so that the result of the triangle of tattoo patient, PicoWay laser and doctor gets the result we want:
- Fewer sessions
- Better clarification
- Less discomfort
- Effective in all colors
This is the purpose of Clínica Tufet. Our picosecond laser has the soul of Clinica Tufet.
After having removed about twenty thousand tattoos, we can affirm that we are the most experienced clinic in pigment removal in Spain.
Which areas can be treated
A tattoo can be removed from any area of the body.
It is possible that a greater number of sessions may be required in the distal areas of the extremities, due to the difficulty of lymphatic drainage in these areas.
Areas close to lymphatic drainage areas (groin, armpits) and areas close to the neck tend to have the best response as they are the most abundant in lymph nodes.
The most difficult areas to remove a tattoo are the parts furthest from the thorax (ankles and wrists).
How many sessions are needed
As a general rule, a minimum of 3 sessions is needed to remove the tattoo, always depending on multiple conditions for total removal:
- Pigment type
- Ink depth
- Ink localization (certain parts of the body are easier than others)
- Type of tattoo (amateur or professional)
- Patient metabolism.
- The size of the tattoo does not influence the lightening. The surface area may require more treatment sessions.
The most difficult areas to remove a tattoo are the parts furthest away from the thorax (ankles and wrists).
The color most resistant to removal is green.
How often are they performed
It is advisable to leave at least 2 – 3 months between each session, so that sufficient time elapses for the ink fragments to be eliminated by the body.
For a tattoo of approximately 10cm x 10cm the treatment lasts 15 to 20 minutes.
Real cases

Permanent eyeliner
Removing permanent eyeliner
The removal of permanent eyeliner, or more commonly known as permanent eyeliner, is possible. In many cases, the result after the eyeliner is not as expected, and the results are unsightly, with lines of different thickness, or expanded ink, or perhaps the tail of the eyebrow is too long and does not fit your current image.
Is it safe?
Removing the tattoo from such a delicate area is safe but only if it is done under the right conditions. The eyes must be protected, so it is necessary to place intraocular metallic lenses to avoid the laser action directly in the eye and its possible complications. It is also important that these lenses are sterilized to avoid possible infectious complications.
Caution should be exercised because not all laser providers can give these guarantees, and this can lead to complications.
Procedure
The first step is the placement of the sterile contact lenses. For this, we apply intraocular anesthetic drops, which makes the process of inserting the lenses completely painless.
Once applied, the tattoo is removed. Although it is an uncomfortable area, so it is obvious that the patient will feel some pain, the small amount of ink and the cold placement make the process more bearable.
After the treatment, the only thing left to do is to remove the contact lenses and wash the lubricant used to insert them.
Post treatment
The eyelids will remain edematous for 2 days, during which it is recommended to use sunglasses and repairing cream. Patients can lead a normal life after the treatment following these simple instructions.

Why such a curious name?
Very easy. Our work in the Unit is characterized by the use of the laser in picoseconds and not only that…
Besides, we were amused by the play on words: How many sessions will I need, Dr? Skin and peak. Always depending on what your body demands and the integrity of your skin needs.
Traces of ink can always remain after tattoo removal.
But “Piel y pico” is more than just removing ink, our Dr. Iris Flores RESTORES YOUR SKIN. How?
Through the combination of picosecond laser and the different fraxel lasers available at Clínica Tufet; lasers that we use for facial rejuvenation and skin treatment.
“Piel y pico” is nothing more than a tribute to the integrity of your skin and also refers to our star laser.
