Barcode
What is a "barcode" when we talk about wrinkles?
The “bar code” refers to the fine vertical lines that appear on the upper lip, usually as a result of skin aging and repeated movements of the perioral muscles.
These wrinkles can give the face a more tired or hardened appearance, affecting the harmony of facial expression. Its name comes from the similarity with the parallel lines of printed bar codes. It is one of the areas where the loss of collagen, elasticity and firmness of the skin is most noticeable.
What are the causes of its appearance?
Barcode” wrinkles arise from a combination of internal and external factors. Among the most common are natural aging, loss of collagen and hyaluronic acid, and repetitive movements when speaking, smoking or gesturing.
Sun exposure, skin dehydration and genetics also play a role. Over time, the skin becomes thinner and loses structural support, favoring the appearance of these lines that can deepen if not treated in time.
