Breast reconstruction
What is
What is mastopexy (breast lift)?
Mastopexy is a repositioning of the tissues restoring youth and harmony to the breast. It is indicated in patients with sagging breasts, such as after pregnancy.
With breast lift surgery we achieve a harmonic elevation of the nipple-areola complex. Through this intervention, the surgeon performs a repositioning of the tissue, being aware that we do not provide volume to the breasts. Because of these same limitations, a new concept is born, the mastopexy with volume augmentation. In addition to repositioning the tissues, we also provide volume by means of a prosthesis.
Duration of the intervention
Between 1.5 and 3.5 hours.
Duration of admission
24 hours
Recovery time
24-48 hours
Information
Applications
The purpose of breast reconstruction is:
- Recreate a natural looking breast, including the areola and nipple.
- Eliminate the need to wear external filling prostheses, making it possible to wear clothes that would not be possible without reconstruction (swimsuits, necklines, etc.).
- Filling the gap and deformity that may remain in the thorax.
- Restore body image and improve the patient’s quality of life. A breast reconstruction is definitive and will allow you to lead an absolutely normal life.
For the vast majority of women with breast cancer, breast reconstruction improves their image, which facilitates greater emotional stability, allows them to cope more positively with the disease and to lead a more active social and sexual life.
Differences between restorative and cosmetic surgery
In many occasions it is wanted to separate what is the Reconstructive Surgery from the Aesthetic Surgery, however, they are interrelated fields.
Breasts with some type of deformity, such as tuberous breast, can be considered an aesthetic surgery, but at the same time, a reconstructive surgery, since they require reconstructive techniques. There is a malformation in the development of the breast and this requires more complex techniques than a breast augmentation surgery, in order to improve the result. Another example of the confluence of these two fields of surgery are the gigantomastia (breast hypertrophy).
