What is
Trends and developments in breast surgery
Aesthetic breast surgery has varied and evolved over the last few years. On the one hand, the materials and the prostheses themselves were “first generation”, with little variety, limiting the options.
Today, we offer a wide range of shapes, types of gels with different degrees of cohesiveness, anatomical or round prostheses. The latest generation implants and fashions have marked a very exposed and changing surgery. Our mission and vision at Clínica Tufet is always to put safety and harmony of results above demands and risky bets.
Pain intensity
Breast surgery does not usually cause much pain. When we perform the surgery in a muscular plane, behind the muscle, the discomfort may be more pronounced due to posterior arm movements.
Recovery time
Recovery is closely linked to the activity that patients have to perform in the days after surgery. A sedentary lifestyle or an office job will not cause major discomfort. If, on the other hand, we want to do physical activity, we will be able to do it after approximately one month.
Scars
The typology of the scars varies according to the intervention we perform. In the case of mammoplasty, we will have to make a small incision under the breast by the armpit... If instead we are going to perform a breast lift (mastopexy) we will have more scars as a result. The minimum scar is around the areola, but in many cases there will also be a vertical and horizontal scar. Therefore it is very important to inform in advance of the possible incisions that will have to be made. In the first weeks after surgery, our specialists in our Laser Unit can soften the appearance of these scars. It is important to note that when a scar has a reddish tone, the result of the treatment is more favorable.
Sizes
At Clínica Tufet we do not like to say that we put sizes, we use prostheses that have volume. The size is conditioned by the volume, but, above all, by the back. It is essential to take correct measurements to assess the space for a suitable prosthesis and assess the profile we want to achieve, high or low. These variables result in a volume. When patients talk about sizes, our surgeons have to "interpret" the expectations and translate them into a surgery appropriate to the morphology of the patient.
Information
How are breast prostheses placed?
In most surgeries, breast prostheses are placed behind the pectoral muscle. However, the concept of breast placement goes beyond that: we perform what is called dual planning.
How is this technique performed?
The surgeon releases the insertions of the pectoralis muscle and this allows the muscle to retract upwards. Consequently, we can free space between the muscle itself and the mammary gland, allowing the prosthesis to seat better. The breast implant will conform properly at the level of the lower pole, in turn, offering the security of being covered by the upper pole muscle.
How long do they last?
The first generation prostheses had a more limited lifespan and required replacement approximately every ten years. Today, however, the implants are of the latest generation with an advanced and durable design. How has this influenced this popular procedure? The greater durability has made this surgery much more attractive to a wider public, for economic reasons and for safety.
However, we recommend a radiological control with the plastic surgeon after the tenth year by means of ultrasound and/or mammography, to evaluate if the prostheses are in good condition.
What is lipofilling?
Breast surgery with autologous grafts (Lipofilling)
In most cases, breast surgery requires an implant that is not always well received by patients, either due to lack of knowledge or for other reasons.
In these cases, our surgeons at Clínica Tufet can offer an advanced technique using an autologous graft. The procedure to obtain fat tissue consists of a small liposuction of a donor area. Then, the fat is centrifuged to increase its purity and concentration, in order to use it later as an autologous implant.
Implant rupture
It is advisable to perform the first session between 35-40 years of age, always depending on the patient’s skin condition.
Results in older people are also significant in skin firming and wrinkle smoothing.
Results and recovery
Thermage FLX is the evolution of the Thermage CPT that we had at the Clinic until now. We have been using the different generations of Thermage devices since 2004:
- Vibration system with graduation and cooling of the treatment area.
- Application area is larger, covering a larger surface area per stroke (faster).
The most important difference: In the Thermage CPT (old) the doctor measured the impedance at a single point on the forehead (average of the impedance of the whole face). In the Thermgae FLX, the device measures in each 4cm2 grid the impedance of the skin. Therefore, we speak of maximum customization. The treatment is tailored to each square of your skin in real time.
