Information
What it is used for
Ultrasound of the supra-aortic trunks, better known as carotid ultrasound, allows the study of the arteries that carry blood to the brain and arms. It allows us to identify if there is any atheroma plaque and if it produces some type of hemodynamic repercussion in the territory.
Depending on the findings, treatment is initiated for stroke prevention, since if part of the plaque becomes detached, a stroke could occur. The patients most prone to present carotid plaques are smokers, diabetics, hypertensive and dyslipidemic (high cholesterol).
