Information
How it works
The purpose of a lip augmentation is to thicken the mucosal part of the lip itself. Nowadays, for us, the best method is to use a medical treatment based on a reabsorbable material filler, specifically Hyaluronic Acid.
Hyaluronic Acid is a polysaccharide of the glycosaminoglycan type, very abundant in our skin and mucous membranes.
Of the most relevant effects, we would highlight its capacity to retain water, providing hydration and turgor, and its capacity to stimulate collagen formation.
Thus, being a product of these characteristics, it is recognized by our cells as if it were our own, providing a high level of security.
What techniques do we use
As for the method, we will use different procedures according to the needs of each patient:
In a young person what we are going to take into account is whether there is symmetry between both sides of the lips, the proportion between the upper and lower lip and finally the fit between the three units of the face where it forms part, which are the nose, the mouth and the chin.
Thus, in order to correct the asymmetry, we should detect this irregularity if it comes from the dental support, if it is due to a chromatic issue caused by partial lip depigmentation, for example, due to repeated labial herpes simplex, and if this asymmetry is observed at rest and/or in movement.
If the patient already shows signs of lip aging, with peribuccal wrinkles, mucosal inversion, lack of lateral projection, the approach should be more cautious and correction in stages.

Procedure
Lip filler treatment begins when the doctor applies a topical anesthetic to numb your lips (a sensitive area) before injecting the filler through a small needle or cannula into the areas of your lips where more volume or definition is desired. These dermal fillers add volume, shape and definition instantly.
Once the filler has been injected, the medical specialist will gently massage your upper and lower lips to prevent the formation of lumps. From start to finish, the whole process takes approximately 30 minutes depending on each case.
The lips are among the most sensitive regions of the body, which means that injections in this area may be a bit more painful.
Because of this, our doctors often use a topical anesthetic cream prior to lip filler treatment to make the procedure more comfortable. In addition, many hyaluronic acid fillers contain lidocaine to help control pain.
Results
After injecting the hyaluronic acid, you will see the results instantly. However, at Clinica Tufet we perform the treatment progressively to see how the lip mucosa adapts to the filler.
Swelling is typical after injections, so don’t be surprised if you have “duck lips” during the first day or two.
The final results will be visible one to three days after the procedure, once the swelling subsides.
Depending on the filler you choose, the results can last from 6 to 12 months.
The speed at which the lip filler disappears also depends on how your body metabolizes the product (absorption of the filler is faster in some people).
Cases with associated morphology
To aesthetically repair the morphology and even the phonation of a cleft lip. Congenital defect where the baby is born with a cleft palate and an upper lip split in half. This type of lesion requires several reconstructive surgical sessions until puberty, after which we can already give improvement of the shape.
We can also encounter the reconstruction of a lip after excision of a dermo-epidermal lesion, leaving an asymmetry as a sequel.
In certain pharmacological treatments we can observe as a side effect an excess of dryness in skin and mucous membranes giving an important lip discomfort, for example with the oral intake of tretinoin or retinoic acid in the treatment of acne.
Here the infiltration of a low cross-linked type of hyaluronic acid will be ideal to restore the comfort of both lips.

Gingival smile
When the patient smiles, the upper gum is exaggeratedly exposed. This is a treatment that combines several techniques, including a targeted upper lip augmentation.
