At Clínica Tufet, we are experts at removing tattoos.

Our process involves little discomfort. The number of sessions will depend on the condition and characteristics of the tattoo: the type of ink used, whether it was done by a professional, its color, and how deep the ink is located in the skin. A rough estimate would be 3-6 sessions for a black or dark blue tattoo, depending on the type of system used.

Dark tattoos– black or dark blue– can be entirely removed, while light green, yellow and orange tattoos can be partially removed.

Clínica Tufet currently offers all the different laser tattoo removal systems, which allows us to tailor our treatments to our patients’ preference.

The different laser tattoo removal systems are:

  • Intense Pulsed Light: used to treat various colors.
  • CO2 laser used to perform dermabrasion. Used for resistant tattoos.
  • Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser, with ultrashort dual wavelength pulses 532 nm wavelength for treating red, orange and green pigment.
  • 1064 nm wavelength for black and dark blue tattoos.
  • The Picoway Laser, which is groundbreaking in Spain, is cutting-edge American technology that removes tattoos by emitting pulses that last picoseconds.

Basic information about tattoos

WHAT IS A TATTOO?

A tattoo is a drawing or design made on the skin which deposits different types of ink that go into the skin.

HOW MANY DIFFERENT KINDS OF TATTOOS ARE THERE?

  • Tattoos can be categorized into four groups:
  • Professional tattoos: Organic pigments mixed with metal elements, very dense and deep into the skin.
  • Amateur tattoos: India ink (carbon), not very dense and at varying depths in the skin.
  • Tattoos from accidents or traumatic incidents: Caused by skin injuries such as abrasions or explosions, of varying concentrations and depths.
  • Cosmetic tattoos: Ferrous pigments: ferrous oxide and titanium dioxide, which are usually close to the surface.

WHAT IS TATTOO REMOVAL?

Tattoo removal destroys a tattoo’s ink using a laser, which shatters ink of a specific color into tiny particles until it is completely gone.

WHAT IS THE PICOWAY LASER?

PicoWay is a very innovative dual-wavelength picosecond laser from Syneron Candela, the most trusted brand in cosmetic lasers. PicoWay can remove multi-color and stubborn tattoos.

PicoWay’s unique mechanism of action involves exposing the tissue to ultra-fast energy pulses, measured in picoseconds. These bursts of energy create a photomechanical effect that shatters the ink and pigmentation of the tattoo into smaller particles that are easier to eliminate.

PicoWay uses M.O.P.A. technology, one step above Q-SWITCHED technology. This new M.O.P.A technology makes it possible to generate shorter pulses (measure in picoseconds) with higher levels of energy.

A greater peak of power and a shorter pulse yield the best results for the clearance of pigmented lesions in all skin types.

Dual Wavelength: 532nm & 1064nm to treat a wide range of tattoo colors and types, reducing the number of sessions per treatment.

¿WHAT IS THE Q-SWITCHED Nd:YAG LASER?

The Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is an excellent laser for treating tattoos and benign pigmented lesions. It is a very effective treatment for tattoos with dark pigments– such as black and blue. It features high-powered pulses with short exposure times, which by means of a photoacoustic effect cause minimal thermal damage in the area treated, without affecting the surrounding tissue.

The recommended time between treatment sessions is 8-12 weeks.

Requires from 6 to 12 sessions, depending on the type of tattoo.

Recommended time of 4 weeks between sessions.

Requires from 4 to 6 sessions, depending on the type of tattoo.

Anesthesia required

Anesthesia not necessary (painless)

Not advisable for dark skin phototypes

Suitable for any skin phototype because it has no thermal effect.

WHAT ARE THE TREATMENT’S COUNTER-INDICATIONS?

Sunbathing is not recommended approximately 30 days before and after the treatment.
